Seaseme street , a key tool in parenting , teaching or a guilty pleasure. Seaseme street is one of the longest ran children shows throughout the world. Its fuzzy companions such as Elmo, Big Bird and the Count ; arent just puppets but, tools in engaging children into communication. Fun fact, when my mom came to the United States back in 1970 from Cuba, she learned the english language by watching Seaseme Street! On another note what are some other postive outcomes of commication regarding Seaseme Street, well welcome to the right place , I have a few examples.
In Weaver J (2013) study based on Seaseme streets findings on natural brain developement in children showcased a postive outcome for near science. According to the artcile “In the study, 27 children between the ages of four and 11 and 20 adults participated in a series of fMRI experiments. These subjects first watched a 20-minute Sesame Street video consisting of clips covering a range of topics, including letters and numbers. Afterward, the children took standardized tests for mathematics and verbal IQ. The researchers then produced “neural maturity” maps by comparing the neural responses of children to those of adults.” By doing so , this study showcased that after watching a 20 minute viewing of Seaseme street children’s brains show adult-like patterns in their neural timecourses during natural viewing paradigms predicts their real-world academic performance. Postive outcome correct ? Id say so.
Another finding of mine is is from Charolette F. Cole and her collegues in their study on seven elements for creating effective children’s media to promote peacebuilding based on Seaseme street. The article states that creating a media that is approrpriate for the viewer is beneficial for young learners in social inclusion, increased literacy, and improved socioemotional skills (Aboud et al., 2012; Anderson, Huston, Schmitt, Linebarger, & Wright, 2001; Baydar, Kağıtçıbaşı, Küntay, & Gökşen, 2008a; Mares & Pan, 2013; Strasburger, Jordan, & Donnerstein, 2010). The article adds that a Seseame street workshop is put into play where a leader uses children’s media to promote peacebuilding.
